The debate
You can not have a Political commentary blog without talking about the Abbott v Gillard debate. I know that every commentator has already spoken about this debate but it has to be said “Thank the lord” that there is not going to be the three debates that Tony Abbott wants. As a matter of fact I do not think that he had enough political material to run one debate. Between them “moving forward” and “stopping the boats” I think that there was about 5 minutes of actual content. The only thing that made people tune in was the outside chance that one of them would pull a fiscal rabbit out of their hat and offer the voters a Kevin Rudd style hand out.
While boat people are a real concern to Australia, Australian are more concerned about hospitals and child care places. I can not see that the plight of the refugees is going to get voters to pencil the number one in a candidates box based on how their party says that they are going to deal with the issue.
The enviroment was glossed over with Gillard talking about community consultation groups and Abbott talking about his “Green Army”. Has anyone pointed out the that normal Army wears green, I’m just saying this is a bit confusing. There was no detail on either side as to how their solutions would improve the enviroment recover.

Reality TV = Game Shows
They might call them reality TV but really they are game shows. When was the last time that a person in real life had to battle it out with 14 people in a kitchen stadium. I can not remember any boss I have ever had telling me that there was an immunity idol somewhere in the office and if I find it I would not be up for eviction.
Maybe they don't call them game shows anymore because that denotes the fact that there is a winner and a whole lot of losers at the end of the series. Have we gone too PC is this become a society where you can not call someone a looser. I caught the masterchef runner-up Callum Hann saying that they all felt like winners. Well I am sorry Callum but the judges voted and Adam Liaw is the winner. This is something that you are going to have to come to terms with.
This is why I like shows like "Wipe out". They are unashamedly Game show. One person wins and a lot of people end up in the water. It is all over in 1 hour and I can get on with my life. I do not have to spend three months every night glued to the TV watching and waiting to see which person will burn the arse out the scones and have to leave the masterchef kitchen.
